Ok.... For example say someone went into a mudhole, lets just say it was a deep mud hole about bellybutton deep and someone dident know it was that deep and attempted to cross it in a 06 wolverine 4x4 and the atv was completely underwater.
Now lets say this person almost made it across .... but had to be pulled out.
Now lets say they drained the water out of it and it starts fine, but, the automatic will not come out of first gear now. What now do I ....Um...Err....Would that person do? other than let it sit and let everything dry out.

humm, could that person have been u??? lol lol
anyway i would reccomend changing all of your fliuds considering all your breathers were proly underwater. how does the oil look, any water in it? did you ride it after it was sunk? dont know to much about those automatics.

just bought all new oil filter and fluids. The oil did not look bad but im going to change it. Once it died in the water I dident restart it untill We had it pulled out and had drained all the water from it and then it started right up. We left it running for 5 min. everything seemed fine but when I started to go the 10miles back to the truck I discovered the auto would notchange gears and just stayed in first. It will go in reverse and it runs and sounds great in first but just wont change gears.
I wonder if and when the Belt and everything dries out it will be ok. I had a friend sunk a Polaris and after letting it sit for about 3 days everything was working fine.

Did "THE PERSON" drain the clutch housing after being sunk? There is a drain plug on the right side of the quad toward the back of the black housing on the bottom, grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull it out.
If so I would bet that the grease in the primary clutch has been diluted enough with water that it slung out and now you can not get up to speed.
The water can make the belt slip or not having enough grease in the primary can do the same.
The auto trans is a cvt it does not have any shift to it, it is a belt that as the primary moves in and out it pulls the belt tighter which changes the ratio of the secondary clutch which causes the speed difference such as with gears in a normal transmission.
If you drain all the water out of the clutch housing and it does not get any better you will have to remove the clutch housing and repack the primary with grizz grease from yamaha, 17.00 a tub (but you can repack about 3-4 times)

Thanks for the help it was greatly appriciated. There was still alot of hidden mud packed infront and behind the primary which would not allow the centrifugal force to expand and change gears. I cleaned and repacked the primary using Grizz Grease and now everything seems to be working fine.
Thanks again ctateusa1 for your help.
ThE BeaSt Of GuMm HiLL is now on the prowl again.
